Holidays with Jazz [Saturday-Dec-22-7pm]

This Saturday, Oasis Cafe presents "Holidays with Jazz!" with Kiwoong Choi Band. Kiwoong is a professional drummer who has made music with a very popular singer, Seung Hwan Lee back in Korea. He has come to the States recently to further his musical journey at Berklee. No sooner had he settled than he organized a band with fellow Berklee musicians to give us a special Holidays treat.

Scenes from the Brookline's First Light 2012

Photo

Around this time every year, the people of Brookline hold the First Light winter festival around the town featuring a rich brew of performances and events showcasing the local talents from around the world. This year, our own Samulnori (if you are not familiar with it, you may look it up in wikipedia here.) team joined the fun, presenting the popular Korean traditional percussion music and giving an impromptu hands-on demo for curious children:

Sumie Kaneko to perform in TEDxBeaconSt

Snapz Pro XScreenSnapz002

Those who come to our Oasis cafe concerts may remember Sumie Kaneko's performance from last August. She impressed us much with very interesting performances of her own music which felt traditional and modern at the same time.

Apparently, it is not just us who share appreciation of this gifted musician. She (and her pupils?) is performing (Sunday morning, Nov 18) in the upcoming TEDxBeaconStreet event to be held in the Lincoln School this weekend. TEDx is the satellite (regional) spinoff from TED talks, which feature leading thinkers and activists in all facets of our society and culture. Many of you may know how prestigious it is to be invited to participate there. Kudos for Sumie!

Here is the speakers list of the event.
